Basket Filter, also called Basket Strainer, is an industrial filtration product used (at the inlet or suction) for protection of pumps, heat exchangers, valves and other pipeline products. Sungov offers these in either as simplex filter (basket strainer) or duplex filter (duplex basket strainer). The construction comprises of a basket housing, a basket screen (perforated sheet with/without a wire mesh lining), a gasket and bolting.
Applications include oil, water, fuel, gas, air and several other process liquids and gases. The standard design Code of construction is ASME B16.34 and/or ASME B31.3. Other Codes of construction possible upon request. Pressure ratings from ASME/ANSI Class 150 through to Class 2500. All basket filters are designed for low pressure drop. Basket filter housing is offered in cast or welded construction.
Sungov manufactures Basket Filters in different materials of construction depending on the service. Example: for seawater applications, the material of construction offered is Monel for strainer basket and cast nickel aluminium bronze for strainer body and cover. Similarly, we can offer Hastelloy, chrome moly steel, stainless steel, duplex or super duplex stainless steel in addition to carbon steel.
Welded construction basket filters can also be offered with Quick Open Closures for quick access to servicing the basket screen or basket element.

Frequently Asked Questions
A basket filter strainer is a vessel containing a perforated or mesh basket that traps solid debris and particles from liquid flowing through a pipeline, protecting downstream equipment from damage.
A simplex basket filter has a single basket chamber and requires shutting down flow for cleaning. A duplex basket filter strainer has two baskets with a valve system — allowing one basket to filter while the other is cleaned, enabling continuous operation without downtime.
Basket filters (pipeline basket strainers) are widely used in water treatment, chemical processing, oil & gas, marine, wastewater treatment, and general industrial pipelines — anywhere where removal of solids from liquids is needed to protect pumps, valves or downstream components.
When choosing a basket filter, consider the strainer type (simplex or duplex), basket material (stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant alloys), mesh/perforation size (depending on debris size), flow rate / pressure rating, and system compatibility (pipeline size, connection type).
